The William & Mary Tribe women’s basketball team announced on Thursday that it is pausing all activities due to COVID-19 issues.
As a result, games against the Towson Tigers scheduled for Saturday and Sunday and matchups versus the James Madison Dukes on Feb. 6 and Feb. 7 have been postponed.
While William & Mary offered no specifics in its brief statement, the Williamsburg Yorktown Daily is reporting that "everyone" associated with the team is in quarantine, per a school spokesman.
"The affected individuals are isolating for at least 10 days," W&M Tribe Athletics spokesman Pete Clawson wrote in an email. "William & Mary is also working with close contacts of those individuals to arrange self-quarantine for 10 days; the university has a dedicated team of case managers that help students, faculty and staff navigate isolation and self-quarantine."
A full 14-day quarantine, which is recommended whenever a player, coach, or support staff member in Tier 1 of a team's traveling party tests positive for the coronavirus, would presumably keep William & Mary out of action through the second weekend of February when the Tribe is scheduled to face the UNC Wilmington Seahawks.
William & Mary fell to 6-7 overall and 3-5 in conference play via a 69-66 loss to the Charleston Cougars last Sunday.
