This doesn’t come as too much of a surprise if you’ve been following Vanderbilt football. Swann was the starter at the beginning of the 2023 season but due to injuries and poor performance, he was replaced. He was 107 of 196 passes for 1,457 yards, 12 touchdowns, and seven interceptions. Swann had this to say in a statement.
“I want to start off by thanking God for guiding me and blessing me with the opportunities I have had. I would also like to thank my teammates for sticking with me and being by my side and to all y’all boys, love y’all and I know y’all are gonna be great and can’t wait to see y’all succeed.”
Swann is just the beginning of a list of players that entered the portal. There have been many quarterbacks that are looking to change teams which is the nature of the new college football landscape. Some players are looking to switch teams due to a coaching change but others are simply looking for more playing time or more NIL opportunities. Like it or not, this is how college football is right now. Swann should get some looks due to his experience in the SEC even if it is just at Vanderbilt.
The Vanderbilt Commodores will have to look at the portal for their own quarterback. Their other quarterback with experience also entered the portal leaving them very thin at the position. This is the nature of college football today and Vanderbilt will have to figure it out.
